The island
About Pathiramanal
Pathiramanal is an uninhabited island of palms, quiet paths and birds, between the backwaters of Thaneermukkom and Kumarakom. It sits in Muhamma panchayat, in the Cherthala taluk of Alappuzha district. With little human interference, it has become a roosting place for water birds, mainly cormorants.

- Monsoon. From June to September, water levels can limit boats. We will tell you on the day.
The legend
Why it is called the sand of midnight
The story goes that a young Brahmin dived into the lake for his evening ablutions. The water parted, land rose from below, and Pathiramanal, the sands of midnight, was born. The island is also known as Pathira Thoppu and Ananda Padmanabhan Thoppu.
